Actually, Steins;Gate 0 is the sequel to the special episode released last 2015, an alternate version of episode 23 of the original anime. In the original episode, Okabe was trying to find a way to the world line where both Kurisu and Mayuri will be saved. On the verge of giving up, he finds a message from himself explaining how he will be able to save them both, which led to the ending of the original anime.

However, in this alternate episode and in Steins;Gate 0, Okabe stopped and gave up in his attempts at saving Kurisu, and has decided to go on with his current life, scarred with the memories of travelling through different world lines and witnessing countless deaths of his loved ones. We’re all definitely in for a ride as they give us new characters, innovations, and discoveries that will play a huge role in Okabe’s (and Kurisu’s) life.
Overall, Steins;Gate 0 is definitely a must watch if you have finished the original series. There’s really not much else to say but to go and watch it, and lastly, El.Psy.Kongroo.
