Anime Recommendation: Gakuen Babysitters

The winter anime season has almost come to an end, but if you still need a little bit of warmth and fluff to fill your hearts, then we have the perfect show for you!

Gakuen Babysitters is an adaptation of the manga of the same title by Hari Tokeino. It began airing on January 7, 2018, and as of now, 10 out of 12 episodes have been released.

It is a slice-of-life, school comedy anime which follows Ryuuichi Kashima (Ryuu) along with his brother Kotarou as they were adopted by the chairwoman of Morinomiya School, following the death of their parents due to a plane crash.
In exchange, Ryuu was asked to be a babysitter in the school’s daycare, which looks after the children of the teachers in the school. Cute and hilarious moments ensue as Ryuu and Kotarou meet, and soon befriend the kids in the school daycare.

First, we have Taka-kun, the rowdy and playful little brother of Hayato, a classmate of Ryuu. We also have Kirin-chan, a very sweet and adventurous little girl. There’s also Kazuma and Takuma, twins that are completely different from each other, but inseparable, either way. Lastly, we have Midori-chan, the only baby being taken care of in the daycare. Before Ryuu arrived, Usaida-san was the only one left in charge of “taking care” of the kids.

The show also often gives us a look at Ryuu’s normal school life, which would also often coincide with his babysitting duties. In fact, the show gives us hints and undertones of romance, which we just can’t get enough of!

Sometimes, the show would give us scenes that just tug at our heartstrings, and are really difficult to handle emotionally. From family, siblings, to one’s life, hopes and dreams; we are presented with these themes which most of us would find relatable and heartwarming. (so make sure you have something to wipe your tears with while watching, just in case!)

Overall, I think the show is perfect for when you really need something lighthearted, wholesome and peaceful. Just a warning though, it may or may not be similar or realistic, compared to your experience with children in real life!
